Events & Workshops

Welcome to Feÿtopia, where we have yet to invent the concept of a typical day.

Our everyday is peppered with impromptu, emergent, participatory events. Think improv workshops, music jams, all-nighter philosophy discussions, salons for your daily cosmetic and intellectual routine, sports (indoor, outdoor, inside out), movie screenings, talks… to name the most conventional happenings.

Below, you'll find our curated list of week-long workshops and grander, scheduled events.

🗝️ Open workshops are those you may register to participate in. Reach out to the listed “contact” person – they're waiting for your call (probably).

🔒 A 'closed' workshop struck your fancy? You can still stay with us during that time and soak in the ambient, osmosis-tic collective learning.

DELTA Immersion Weeks

Science and spirituality are two topics that are often regarded as antagonistic with one another. However, after careful consideration and meaningful exploration into this dichotomy, we have come to believe that there is a distinct union between them.

It is fair to say that the scientific method emphasizes empiricism—the use of empirical observations and experiments in order to uncover facts about the world around us. Meanwhile, spirituality focuses more on individual experience and what we can take away from it—it seeks meaning beyond our understanding of observable realities. The former allows us to measure external forces and provides insight into material objects. The latter enables us to develop internal insights about ourselves and the world, expanding our inquiries beyond mere observation, as spiritual practices provide access towards realms which remain invisible to today’s scientific practices.

While these two perspectives may appear contradictory at first glance, they are both rooted in gaining knowledge through different means with similar goals: to reach an ultimate truth which will help enhance human life on earth; whether physical or intangible.

Therefore when embraced together, each offers tremendous potential for truth-seeking and self-discovery. Allowing direct interaction between inner experiences—that may sometimes appear to be transcending logic—and scientific knowledge—exclusively based on tangible and reproducible data—can offer new insights about reality, helping us deconstruct some of the scientific premises that are too narrow to explain the wide variety of unknowns.

Extitutional Theory and Practice

During this workshop, we will explore a novel theoretical framework to analyse the interplay between formalized social structures that are commonly described as “institutions” and the underlying social dynamics that animate these institutions, also known as “extitutions''. Using a series of case studies to explore the dialectic between these two components of social organisations (the institutional and the extitutional components), we will investigate the extent to which they are both necessary to ensure the long-term sustainability of social systems.

Theorizing Extitutions

The goal of this interdisciplinary workshop is to elaborate a comprehensive theory of extitutions and the process extitutionalisation. It will invite both institutional and extitutional scholars from different disciplines, as well as practitionners interested in exploring and better understanding extitutional frameworks. The goal is to elaborate new conceptual tools to better understand the process of extitutionalisation, and new vocabulary to better grasp the distinctive characteristics of this process. During the conference, participants will compare these two types of structured social dynamics (institutions and extitutions) and identify new forms of interactions between the two.

Governance Workshop
Nov

to Mar 1

Governance Workshop

Feÿtopia has been recently collaborating with the Embassy Network to explore the various facets of institutions and how to innovate with new types of social dynamics that operate outside of the traditional institutional framework. Together, the network is exploring the possibility for the establishment of new “virtual nations” based on a mixture of institutional and non-institutional norms. The aim is to create a network of institutions that are not necessarily based on territorial jurisdictions, but on shared practices. The network of communities will allow us to experiment with new practices to improve community life, and explore how we can co-create new types of institutions that will help us collectively address the most pressing challenges that urgently need to be addressed both at the local and global level.
